Creating New Access To Play
Horizon is on the approved list of the Vale of Glamorgan Council and was contracted as Principal Contractor, having been awarded the tender. As well as working closely with the client, we had to liaise at all times with the appointed Landscape Architect. The site was located at Hunt Place Play Area, Barry – on confined, sloping ground. The site was an existing play area with play equipment in very poor condition. This area also included concrete art and seats which were also in a poor condition. Tree and vegetation growth on the boundary with Holton Road was very overgrown.
The purpose of the contract was firstly to clear vegetation adjacent to Holton Road to improve visibility into the play area and create a new access. This included the construction of paths and remodelling of soft landscaping. A new bench and a bin were installed and a new play area created on safety surfacing with a rocker, carousel and mixed seating swing. Planting areas were also created. Horizon worked very closely with the client and Landscape Architect to overcome various difficulties with the site which included access from a very busy road, the sloping nature of most of the ground, planting conditions for landscaping and the deployment of staff to another Vale of Glamorgan play area in the near vicinity, at the same time.
